2008 Administrative Intern Job Description
Position: Administrative Intern - Unpaid
Department: Central Office
Reports to: Director of Operations
CPC is a private social services organization working in partnership with the government, elected officials, and community-based organizations to implement our mission of serving the Chinese immigrant population of New York City.
Description: This internship is an opportunity for someone with tremendous analytical and writing skills to learn the operations of a medium-sized nonprofit organization. S/He will work and collaborate with other management staff on administrative assignments and special projects, inclusive of evaluating and generating written office policies and procedures in programming areas of child care, senior services, fire and safety, etc. Additionally, the intern may be assigned administrative duties to support the overall mission of the Chinese-American Planning Council. Candidates are asked to verify class standing and/or grade point average.
Compensation: Stipend and transportation reimbursement for year-long commitments.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Works directly with the Director of Operations to assist with internal needs at the Central Office.
• Prepare written memos and reports to be reviewed by Director of Operations.
• Attends meetings of various programs and divisions on behalf of the central administration. Takes notes at the meetings and prepares to provide feedback
•Help develop plan for reorganization of archival and working filing systems.
• Assist in planning and executing special projects, inclusive of grant proposals and reports.
• Help plan special events, such as brown bag discussions, etc.
• Review and evaluate standing and existing policies and procedures for various sites and programs of the Chinese-American Planning Council.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
College-level students; Will consider highly motivated upperclassmen high school students.
Language and Other Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Fluency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin helpful
Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet management; graphic design helpful

CPC BEACON @ PERSHING I.S. 220 – AFTERSCHOOL GROUP LEADERS
TITLE: After-School Program Group Leader
SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 2:30pm to 6:00pm
SITE: CPC Beacon @ Pershing I.S. 220
Brooklyn, 4812 9th Avenue (between 48th & 49th Street)
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with 20-25 Junior High students
• Plan and implement group after school time activities
• Provide supervision and guidance for program activities such as homework assistance and recreation.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least 18 years old, college students or grads strongly preferred.
• Ability to plan and implement activities
• Ability to manage classroom and behavior independently
• Fluent English required/ bilingual Chinese or Spanish desirable
• Experience working with Youth
• Knowledge of Computers Desired

CPC BEACON @ PERSHING IS 220 – ADULT COMPUTER INSTRUCTOR
TITLE: Adult Computer Instructor
SCHEDULE: Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.
SITE: CPC Beacon @ Pershing I.S. 220
Brooklyn, 4812 9th Avenue (between 48th & 49th Street)
SALARY: $20 per hour
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach two cycles of adult computer with a concentration on Microsoft applications, particularly Word and Excel. Each cycle will consist of 20-25 students a piece and will last 16 – 18 weeks.
• Develop and implement curriculum under the supervision of the Program Director
• Conduct class in manner to retain students, work with administration to ensure that students are retained
• Document activity results through pre-and post test, development of portfolios and other projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be proficient with Microsoft business applications, knowledge of web design a strong plus
• College student or college grad
• Prior adult education experience a plus
• Bilingual English/Chinese preferred but not required

TITLE: Afterschool English as Second Language Instructor
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
SITE: CPC Beacon @ Pershing I.S. 220
Brooklyn, 4812 9th Avenue (between 48th & 49th Street)
SALARY: Commensurate With Experience
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach English to a group of 20-25 Elementary or Junior High
• Prepare students to successfully take the New York State English as Second Language Aptitude test
• Develop curriculum in conjunction with program director
• Provide supervision and guidance to other program activities such as homework assistance and recreation
• Document activity results through pre and post test and other measurement tools
• Conduct class in manner to ensure the retention of students, work with administration to retain students
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to read, write and speak Mandarin and Cantonese
• Ability to manage classroom and behavior independently
• Prior experience working with youth
• Current college student or college grad
