Princeton Chinese Theater presents: The Peach Blossom Land

Princeton Chinese Theater presents:

The Peach Blossom Land

Frist Theater, Princeton University

$6 dollar for students, $10 for adults

Thursday Nov 20 8pm

Friday Nov 21 8pm

Saturday Nov 22 2pm

Saturday Nov 22 8pm

Two theatre troupes double booked a stage for the dress rehearsals of their plays, one a heart-moving drama, the other a farce drawing its root from a well-known antique Chinese short story. Though contrasting one another in almost all aspects, they find themselves telling essentially the same story. When tragedy meets comedy, the clashes shape different metaphors for different people.

The contrast between reality and ideals has always been the key of literature. This show, though modern in form, nevertheless explores this aspect. The blurred conception of tragedy and comedy also brings more profundity to the work. To use this as the first production is to set the right tone for the Theatre, that is, to explore conflicts and confrontations of lives via the powerful tool of stage plays.

|203346&schedule=list。

CUCSSA invitation to a jam session in Harlem

CUCSSA invitation to a jam session in Harlem
To whom it may concern,

My name is Nuwna Velasquez. I hold the position as president for an entertainment company entitled Un4gettable Ladiez. My company has been involved in a number of events ranging from fashion shows and club parties to fundraisers and awareness campaigns. One of our latest investments has been in a seasonal open mic known as Eregular Flow. The next event Un4gettable Ladiez is organizing is food drive for the homeless, which is non-profit.

The most recent dealings have been with a jam session known as Reverberation: The Explosive Sounds of Afro Latino & Caribbean Rhythms. A jam session is usually an impromptu gathering of artists, usually musicians that end up performing. On October 25 and every la Saturday of the month, this event is held at La Pregunta Arts Café, which is located directly across from The City College of New York's campus. The venue's address is 1528 Amsterdam Avenue (between 135th and 136th street).

What makes this jam session different? The creator and CEO of the Adeola Entertainment, Lady Evans, invites various types of artists. Everyone will be given the chance to perform whether you are a poet/spoken word artist, dancer, singer, comedian, rapper, etc. One of our main goals is to expose the unique skills of performers of different cultures, ethnic background, religion, sexual preference and so on. With this said, we would like to personally invite Chinese Students and Scholars Association to ensure that we meet this goal. If you could please send out the following attached image to members of CUCSSA, it would greatly be appreciated.

We look forward to seeing members of CUCSSA attending, if not performing. Attached, it the flyer for Reverberation. For more information or questions, please be sure to email reverberationnyc@yahoo.com. On behalf of Reverberation's creator and hosts, we appreciate and thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Nuwna Velasquez

President of Un4gettable Ladiez

Lecture on Public Speaking Techniques

Renwen Society at China Institute

Public Speaking Techniques:

How to Persuade and Inspire Your
American Audience

Maria Guida

Regardless of who you are and what type of job you currently have or plan to have, there's a good chance that one day you will be required to make a speech in public. It may be a presentation for your colleagues. It may be a toast at your best friend's wedding. It may be a statement at a community meeting. Whatever the purpose, you need to be prepared for that day.

A Harvard Business School study has shown that 93% of the success of business speaking is based upon the speaker's visual and vocal impression; content constitutes only 7% of the impact that speakers make on the listener.

To this end, the Renwen Society at China Institute is presenting a seminar by Maria Guida, President of Successful Speaker, Inc., on Oct. 25, 2008 on the enhancement of public speaking skills. Maria will show you how you can apply techniques that professionals use in order to deliver your message with poise, passion, and persuasive power -- in the office, boardroom, courtroom, classroom, or media. Learn how to inspire belief in the minds and hearts of your clients, colleagues, and friends. This interactive and dynamic seminar will give you opportunity to use your own creativity for in-session practice -- an informative and highly enjoyable event.

Maria Guida, President of Successful Speaker, Inc., has improved performance at some of the world's premier organizations, including JPMorgan Chase, Shearman and Sterling, and NYSE Euronext. As a university professor, she taught speaking skills to business professionals and Ph.D.
candidates from China and the U.S. For many years, Maria worked as a professional actor on Broadway and television and was a principal spokesperson on national TV commercials. For more information about Maria and her company, please visit http://www.successfulspeakerinc.com .

Free admissions, but advance registration is required. To register online, please visit http://chineselectures.org/upcoming.html. To register by phone, please call 212-744-8181, ext. 142. For inquiries, please write to renwen@chinainstitute.org

Taichi Performance on Saturday, Free Admission
Dear CUCSSA members and friends,

This Saturday, CUCSSA will invite five of the most renowned Chinese Taiji masters in New York, as well as their prentices, to present a world class Taichi performance at Roone Arledge Auditorium, Columbia University. After the beautiful and amazing group performance of Taichi at Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, we will bring you a close look at our Chinese traditional martial art. Performances from the masters (Sitan Chen, Xiaoying Zhou, Peili Hu, Hui Zhang, and Jianguang Zhou) include the 56 competition of Chen style Taichi, Taichi sword, Taichi spear, Taichi push hands, etc. An interaction section will follow after the performances. Audiences have a chance to learn from Taichi masters.

TaiChi Quan is considered to be one of the internal styles of Chinese martial art, and is the most widely practiced martial art in the world today. The term "Tai Ji" refers to the ancient Chinese cosmological concept of the interplay between two opposite yet complementary forces (Yin and Yang) as being the foundation of creation. "Quan" literally means, "fist" and denotes an unarmed method of combat. TaiChi Quan as a martial art is based on the principle of the soft overcoming the hard. Besides Taichi Quan, there are also Taichi sword, Taichi push hands, etc.

Time: 3:00pm-5:00pm, Saturday, Oct 11, 2008
Location: Roone Arledge Auditorium, Lerner Hall, Columbia University
(You can take number 1 train and get off at 116 St. and Broadway)

This event will be free admission for everyone. Tickets can be requested online at https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/pe/828262. Tickets will be available for pick up at Box Office, Lerner Hall, Columbia University.

Dear CUCSSA members and friends,

This coming Saturday, our CUCSSA soccer club team will have a soccer friendship game with Stony Brook CSSA team at Stony Brook University, Long Island. If you would like to play, feel free to contact our club manager Ruxian Wang (rw2267@columbia.edu). We need new and more soccer players in our team. We did well before in soccer matches and also won some tournaments. I believe you will like our soccer team, where there are a lot of funny guys and you will make more friends.

If you don't play soccer, it is also a nice chance to go out and relax before it's getting too cold. Stony Brook is a nice town with beautiful ocean view. Everybody is warmly welcome to go there together with us. It will be a nice trip. More people, more fun!

The team and their friends will depart from 116 St and Broadway (Columbia main gate) at 11am Saturday on September 20th.

If you have any question, please feel free to contact Ruxian Wang at rw2267@columbia.edu

CUCSSA also have some other clubs which hold activities periodically. All related information is available on our forum at http://www.cucssa.org/pub/modules/newbb/

Thank you all and have a nice day!
