Cao Yu’s Thunderstorm (in Chinese: 雷雨 Lei Yu) is a classic and undoubtedly one of the most popular Chinese dramatic works. The plot of Thunderstorm centers on one family's psychological and physical destruction as a result of incest, as perpetrated at the hands of its morally depraved and corrupt patriarch, Zhou Puyuan. The complex relationships between family members and conflicts between social classes make this a gripping and occasionally suffocating play. PCT’s adaptation of this play shortens the original 4-hour play to a two-and-half-hour production, keeping the essence and exploiting the rich ideas the playwright bequeaths the director, the actors and the audiences. The show will be performed in Chinese with comprehensive English program notes.
Princeton Chinese Theater is a student group established in April 2008, run entirely by students on all levels of production, including screenwriting, directing, acting and logistical operations.
